Hi,
My first blog.... and instead of writing about what I am or people close to me, I am going to write about people I met for a couple of hours, dont even know their names and will never see them again in my entire life.
Just day before yesterday, I was travelling from Pune to Mumbai and as I hate being stuck in a bus for hours, I took a shared taxi from Aundh, Parihar Chowk..
Me being the only 'lady' in the car, I was given the front seat. Well the journey began and before we even reached the expressway, one guy sitting on the last seat, started feeling nauseus and wanted to vomit... For so long, all the six passengers sitting in the car had not spoken even a word with each other, but the minute the puky guy said he was unwell, all of us around him sarted chirping like early morning birds.... The taxi took a detour to find a medical and get him an avomin and everyone was full of suggestions....however, no one bothered to get each others names or others details in the process... all were focussed on the puky guy and his problem....
Interesting, I said to myself... Most of us were complaining coz the taxi driver was taking so long to leave just to find one more passenger.... but right now, no one is bothered about the time... everyone is focussed on making the puky guy feel better....
Was it because they all wanted to avoid the discomfort of sitting in a stinking car for the next 3 hours, or just cause they all really felt for the puky guy.... Hard to tell, but I am sure the guy in question must have felt comforted with all the attention that he was getting....
This is community living, I said to myself.... Nobody feels the need to know who the person sitting next to him or her is, but the minute there is a hint of discomfort to the other person, everyone wants to help....
So, there is privacy, but only till the time you are doing fine......
Just a day before, some great thinker had explained to me why people like to live in the city, it is because city gives you privacy even in the crowd... U are free to do whatever you want to do..... Well, if that is really what living in a city is, I dont like it, I would rather have my neighbours asking me a million questions to the point of interference...... Or come to think of it, I like the journey I took from Pune to Mumbai.... There is privacy only until the minute you need help... only until you are fine with it.....I like it.... I like my copassengers.... I hope I always find such co passengers in all my journeys.....
